Always Wanting More…

Is it true that people continually strive for more. More money, more enjoyment, more friendships, more work and best of all more talents. Are people ever satisfied that what they have is enough. Are they ever at peace with where they are in their journey in life?

I remember reading in one of my psychology classes that this concept is actually a trait that keeps us as humans evolving. We always want more and in this way are often motivated to get to greater knowledge, achievements and successes. Could it be actually a natural in-born characteristic to want more out of life?

Sometimes there is abundance at other times not.

Sometimes there is abundance at other times not.

At times wanting more can be very frustrating. Especially to those around us. They can see that we never seem satisfied and that we have indeed succeeded in some fine and wonderful experiences. They can point these out to us directly and lovingly and we can sometimes take off our blinders and see how far we have come.

Another idea is that this ‘wanting more’ is a materialistic quality that comes from having too much and not having the appropriate skills to enjoy what we do have. As well we are seduced by commercials and advertisements to have more of the things some of us just can’t afford.

To enjoy what we do have we can make an effort to look at the things we have and use them weather they are books, magazines or other materials. We can see that even though we don’t have the newest that we often do have what is true to us. We often have that beautiful present, that significant memento or that pretty treasure. This goes for our opportunities too. If we just notice what we’ve been able to do with ourselves we can breathe a satisfying sigh of relief. We are enough!
