This past weekend was earth hour where people used less electricity. People became more aware, even for just a short time, of our impact on the earth. I love the conversation around earth hour about the way it is a magical time.  Earth day is coming up on April 22nd. It is another special day to think of the earth and the way you relate to it.

Consider celebrating it in your own way but here are some suggestions. Write a special poem for a friend or write a letter to the editor about your impression of the environment. Do some picking up of litter or start using a composter. Prune or re-pot some plants. Whatever you decide, be sure to: reduce, reuse and recycle. Read the rest of this entry

Looking Back on My Own Teenage Years

As a teenager, I forged out on my own with some of my activities. Involvement with other activities were influenced by friends, parents and teachers.But what helped me to be a young person that was successful? My parents helped me learn about the themes in my life that would be important. The variety of exciting activities I took part in as a teen help me be the person I am today. Finally, private time with quiet activities was also significant for me. Learning about my purpose, active activities and quiet activities created a meaningful experience in my youth. Tips for the Adult/Teen Relationship?

Remember the silver lining.

I have talked about teens before in my blog. I have wanted to inspire them to take part in things that are meaningful. I have encouraged adults to take an interest in teens.

I have talked about my interesting times with a program called Let’s Talk where I was lead volunteer and went into classrooms with a C.M.H.A delegate. We tried to promote good coping skills to enhance mental health.

Further back than that I developed a week long leadership residential program for teens at Presqu’ile Camp. I also developed a program with the Parks and Recreation daycamps for a teen training experience that readies them for later work with children. Schizophrenia

Schizo – what every you call it!

You might wonder what schizophrenia is and what are some of the issues that people with it might have. Today I want to dedicate this blog to issues and casual information about schizophrenia.

First of all, I’ll call it the ‘S’ illness because for personal reasons it would be difficult to say schizophrenia every time I had to say it. So the positive symptoms of the ‘S’ illness involve sensing things that aren’t there, or having body sensations that are not real, or hearing and seeing things that most people don’t. On the other hand what’s called the negative symptoms can involve a numbed out appearance, and emotions that are dull and a need to withdraw. All of these symptoms can come singley or several at a time and can really be a pain when you want to live a successful and productive life.
